Project Description:

These are two LEED® Certified projects that involve six-story additions to the Duke University Business School and Law School. The buildings are comprised of high-tech classrooms and offices, libraries, and commons spaces.  They feature meeting and lecture rooms with integrated audio/visual systems, and complex architectural features.

The project energy-related systems included:

  • Siemens Building Automation System integrated into campus networked control system.
  • Central air handling units with DDC variable air volume reheat air terminal units.
  • Demand control ventilation via CO2 sensors.
  • Steam to heating hot water heat exchangers for heating and domestic water.
  • Pressure-powered condensate return system.
  • Variable frequency chilled water and heating hot water.
  • Lighting controls based on occupancy sensors and dimmers.
  • Emergency power (new generator and transfer switches).
  • Fire Alarm and Fire Protection systems.
  • Atrium Smoke Control system.
  • Telecommunications
